“Apollo, you magnificent bastard!”

3.11 The Eye of Jupiter

And me? Well, where do I begin? I shot down a civilian passenger ship, the Olympic Carrier, over a thousand people on board, forgiven. I raised my weapon to a superior officer, committed an act of mutiny, forgiven. And then on the very day when Baltar surrendered to those Cylons, I, as commander of Pegasus, jumped away! I left everybody on that planet, alone, undefended for months. I even tried to persuade the admiral never to return, to abandon you all there for good. If I’d had my way nobody would have made it off that planet. I’m the coward, I’m the traitor, I’m forgiven.I honestly didn’t think I’d like Lee Adama this much when I started watching Battlestar Galactica. Sure, he was the stereotypical pretty boy and the son of the Admiral (which definitely helped at first), but the trajectory of his character has been amazing so far. Like all characters on this show, he is incredibly flawed. But what makes me love him so much is that he is aware of these shortcomings and works hard to fix them when he trades in his military position for a political one. He learns to step out from beneath his father’s shadow and do what he feels is right not only for him, but also the human race.
